Discipleship

Why Discipleship?

What Is Discipleship?

The art of discipleship is equipping people from all walks of life to know and follow Jesus. Through relational, group, and peer-on-peer discipleship & prayer initiatives, FOUND Orlando is helping people in their spiritual formation and to become more like Jesus.

Discipleship is a journey of intentional decisions leading to maturity in our relationship with Jesus, which leads us to become more like Him in our character, desires, priorities, focus, and, ultimately, our lifestyle. It requires a commitment from the potential disciple and the disciple-makers. Discipleship is not something that happens unintentionally or overnight, and it can’t be completed in a six-week 'discipleship class.' It is a lifelong commitment and a process of daily surrender to follow Jesus wholeheartedly, learning from and eventually teaching others how to follow Him.

God created His followers to follow Him and become more like Him within the community. The journey of faith and learning to become more like Jesus is faced with difficulties, pain, doubts, and moments of ambiguity. Therefore, having a community to grow with, pray with, and be vulnerable with; who can remind you of the truth of Jesus and the gospel; the good news of Jesus that while we were sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8). The beautiful truth is that the righteous person falls seven times and gets back up (Proverbs 24:16).

True discipleship is taking on the posture of a student, and an identity using our gifts to help each other grow, and the combined use of these gifts contributes to a culture that makes discipleship possible. A discipleship community can also be a place where together, we experience and live out forgiveness and reconciliation. In all of this, discipleship is a part of the process as we follow Christ together and as we are mentored and mentor others along the way.

The Great Commission

"And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” - Jesus | Matthew 28: 18/20
